Verification notes: New listing, added this pass. Apache-2.0 licensed. Originated at Coinbase, but governance has since moved to an independent x402 Foundation — the coinbase/x402 README itself now describes that repo as a development fork, pointing to github.com/x402-foundation/x402 as canonical. Settles in stablecoins over Base and Solana with no accounts or subscriptions, mechanically distinct from AP2's signed Mandates or Stripe's fiat rails. Third-party analysis from Chainalysis put agent activity on the protocol at roughly 69,000 active agents and $50M+ processed as of April 2026 — that figure comes from independent research, not Coinbase's own claim, but we haven't reproduced it ourselves. Coinbase Business added support for accepting agent payments via x402 in July 2026. Re-checked this pass. Correction: x402 V2 has shipped, confirmed via the x402 Foundation's own blog post at x402.org — V2 adds wallet-based identity so a client can skip re-paying on every call, an automatic-discovery extension letting facilitators crawl and index x402-enabled endpoints, dynamic 'payTo' routing for marketplace and multi-tenant use cases, broader multi-chain and CAIP-based fiat-rail support, and a rewritten modular reference SDK now published under the @x402 npm org. Reference SDKs stay backward-compatible with V1, and this doesn't change the openSource/paymentEnabled/mcp/a2a flags — V2 is a protocol and SDK evolution, not a new capability class. Governance is now fully with the independent x402 Foundation, a Linux Foundation project — the transition flagged as in-progress last pass is complete. The Foundation's own post states the protocol has processed over 100 million payments since its May 2025 launch; that figure comes from the protocol's own governing body rather than independent research, so treat it alongside, not in place of, the previously cited independent Chainalysis estimate. Coinbase remains a named partner in the newly added Mastercard Agent Pay for Machines listing, which supports x402 as one of its settlement rails alongside cards and other stablecoin options. Re-checked this pass: governance and V2 specifics unchanged, corroborated by the Linux Foundation's own operational-launch announcement for the x402 Foundation, which lists 22+ backing organizations including AWS, Google, Mastercard, Microsoft, Stripe, and Visa. No flag changes. See the newly added Ant International Agentic Mobile Protocol listing for a mechanically different (mobile-wallet, non-crypto) approach to the same agent-payments problem.
